Our Legacy & Founder
The Story of Moses, Margaret & Dr. Prosper Igboeli

In Memory of Moses & Margaret Igboeli
The name **M&M Hospital** represents a promise made by a boy from Uli, Anambra State. During the Nigerian Civil War, Dr. Prosper Igboeli’s father, **Moses**, served as a General in the Biafran army. After the war ended, Moses was executed.
Devastated but determined, Prosper promised his mother, **Margaret**, that he would become a physician and return to Nigeria to open a hospital dedicated to their honor.
The Mt. Fuji Typhoon & The Peres Family
While attending Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS) in Onitsha, Prosper was chosen to represent Nigeria at the **13th World Scout Jamboree in Shizuoka, Japan (1971)**. During the event, a massive typhoon struck, evacuating thousands of scouts to emergency shelters.
Huddled inside a Shinto shrine, Prosper befriended an American scout, **Michael Peres**. Over the next year, they remained close pen pals, with Prosper sharing his dream of medical school. Moved by his story, the Peres family of Utica, New York, alongside the Utica Kiwanis Club, sponsored his travel and studies in the United States, adopting him into their family.
Prosper excelled, completing his Biology B.S. at Utica College in under two years as the **Salutatorian**, and going on to earn his medical degree from **SUNY Upstate** and complete residency at a **Yale University School of Medicine** affiliate.

A Legacy of Medical Leadership & Philanthropy
Prof. Prosper Igboeli's contributions to the Nigerian medical community extend far beyond clinical treatments. Serving as the **Abia State NMA Zonal Chairman (2001–2006)**, he single-handedly constructed, fully equipped, and donated an entire ultra-modern secretariat complex to the state NMA, refusing to hand over until the building was completely ready.
Later elected as the **National President of the Nigerian Medical Association (2008–2010)**, he accomplished historic milestones: he successfully relocated the NMA national secretariat from Lagos to Abuja, purchasing and constructing a twin duplex building, and negotiated the standardized **CONMESS** salary and benefit structure for all Nigerian medical doctors to prevent strike actions.
