Gynaecological & Fibroid Surgeries

Advanced Surgical Path Restoration

Expert Uterine Architecture Reconstruction

Often, the main mechanical barrier to pregnancy in African women is uterine fibroids. These benign tumors can alter uterine architecture, block fallopian tubes, and prevent successful embryo implantation.

Led by the father-and-daughter surgical team—**Prof. Prosper Igboeli and Dr. Ifeoma Igboeli FACS**—M&M Fertility Hospital is highly recognized across West Africa as a premier center for complex, fertility-preserving gynecological surgeries. We perform laparoscopic myomectomies and hysteroscopy to restore normal uterine anatomy.

Specialization in Fibroids

M&M is widely recognized as **"The Center for Fibroid Surgeries"** in Nigeria. Our surgical teams excel in meticulous enucleation and reconstruction techniques to ensure the uterine wall is preserved for future pregnancy.

Uterine Fibroids: The African Perspective

Uterine fibroids (uterine leiomyomas) are a major health issue affecting Black women at disproportionately high rates. Studies led by Prof. Prosper Igboeli (published in *Current Opinion in Obstetrics & Gynecology* 2019) reveal that **70-80% of women of child-bearing age in sub-Saharan Africa** suffer from uterine fibroids and their complications.

Common complications include severe pain, hemorrhage, and severe anemia that may require multiple blood transfusions, alongside mechanical infertility. Our research points to Vitamin D deficiency as a critical, preventable risk factor in fibroid development in the region.
