IVF, ICSI & IUI Cycles

Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART)

High-Precision Reproductive Science

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is the process where eggs are combined with sperm outside the body in a laboratory dish. For couples with male-factor infertility (such as low sperm count or poor motility), we utilize **Intra-cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)**.

If fertilization issues are minor, we may recommend **Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI)**, which involves washing sperm cells and placing them directly inside the uterus around the time of ovulation.

Pioneered in Eastern Nigeria

Prof. Prosper Igboeli successfully established Eastern Nigeria's first active IVF laboratory in 2002. Today, our labs in Abuja and Aba feature premium air-filtration systems and incubation enclosures.

The Process

Stages of an IVF/ICSI Cycle

Ovarian Stimulation
Step 01

Ovarian Stimulation

Custom hormone stimulation protocols to encourage the development of multiple healthy egg follicles, monitored closely via transvaginal ultrasound and blood hormone panels.

Oocyte Retrieval
Step 02

Oocyte Retrieval

Follicular fluid is aspirated about 34 to 36 hours after hCG injection under transvaginal ultrasound guidance, then immediately transferred to the IVF lab.

Oocyte Isolation & IVF/ICSI
Step 03

Oocyte Isolation & IVF/ICSI

Embryologists isolate eggs and prepare them for injection (ICSI) with a single selected sperm or conventional IVF (cIVF) where thousands of washed sperm are used.

Fertilization Check (Day 1)
Step 04

Fertilization Check (Day 1)

Eggs are incubated under strict conditions for 18 to 20 hours and examined for the presence of two pronuclei, which confirms successful fertilization.

Cleavage Stage (Day 2-3)
Step 05

Cleavage Stage (Day 2-3)

The fertilized eggs are further incubated to cleave into 2 cells, 4 cells, and then 8 cells, showing the first active signs of human embryo development.

Blastocyst Stage (Day 5-6)
Step 06

Blastocyst Stage (Day 5-6)

Embryos are cultured until they reach the blastocyst stage (Day 5/6), which has higher implantation potential. Healthy blastocysts are selected for transfer.

Embryo Transfer
Step 07

Embryo Transfer

Embryos are loaded into special catheters and gently transferred into the prepared endometrium (womb) under direct ultrasound vision.

Implantation & Fetal Scan
Step 08

Implantation & Fetal Scan

Hormonal support is provided for 2 weeks. A positive test is followed by a transvaginal sonogram 1-3 weeks later to confirm gestational success.
